Kentuckians shouldn’t have to jump through hoops to access the care and treatment recommended and prescribed by their physicians. Unfortunately, barriers to care do exist within our health care system.

BARRIERS TO CARE

DENIED

Your physician has diagnosed you with a medical condition and has recommended a treatment plan to manage your health moving forward, which includes medication. You’re eager to get your health back on track and your condition under control. Unfortunately, your insurance company has denied your claim for the medication or treatment your doctor prescribed.

If this has happened to you as a patient, please share your story here. If you are a physician whose patient has been denied treatment, please share your story here.

DELAYED

Insurers frequently utilize practices like prior authorization and step therapy that delay patients from receiving the care they need in a timely manner. The Kentucky General Assembly passed legislation during the 2019 session to alleviate prior authorization issues, and now, it’s important we hold insurers accountable.

If you’ve experienced a delay in care as a patient, please share your story here. If you are a physician whose patient has experienced delays when trying to access care, please share your story here.

PAID MORE

Despite rising premiums, insurers don’t always provide the coverage patients need to access the care they need. Perhaps you required emergency care and were unknowingly treated by an out-of-network provider, resulting in a costly surprise medical bill that your insurer isn’t willing to cover. Or you got to the pharmacy, only to find that the copay for your prescription medication had doubled or tripled.

If any of these scenarios have happened to you as a patient, please share your story here. If you are a physician whose patient has paid higher than expected out-of-pocket costs, please share your story here.
